The Heritage Centre – The Home of Brief Encounter – offers a fascinating range of exhibition areas, a retail shop outlet and the famous ‘Brief Encounter’ Refreshment Rooms
The ‘Brief Encounter’ Cinema Area houses an exhibition dedicated to the classic film, the actors and the famous connection to the Station. The film itself shows throughout the day on the large screen and can be enjoyed from the comfort of authentic theatre seats of the period kindly donated to the Centre by the Winter Gardens, Morecambe
The Age of Steam Galleries contain many exhibits and artefacts from the time when Carnforth was a busy hub in the ‘steam’ network.
The Centre also contains the large multi-purpose Furness and Midland Hall, which in years gone by was the booking office for the Station. Visitors are welcome to look around the Hall whenever possible as the room is also available to hire as a conference and meeting facility.
Our Bateman Gallery is now the ‘home’ of a permanent David Lean ‘Life and Works Exhibition supported by the David Lean Foundation, BAFTA and the British Film Institute.
Guest art and photographic exhibitions are regularly displayed in a newly created Link Gallery and a recent addition to the Centre is an area looking back to how life was in the 40’s.
Group bookings are very welcome – free admission coupled with knowledgeable volunteers on hand at all times help to make the ‘Brief Encounter’ experience one that remains long in the memory.
Full details of the Centre and forthcoming events and attractions are updated regularly on our website: www.carnforthstation.co.uk
