A weekend of making new music, learning about workshop techniques and considering issues of music education and cultural diversity. For musicians, teachers, and aspiring workshop leaders.

Led by members of the acclaimed Grand Union Orchestra, sessions will centre on musical traditions including West African chant and drumming, South African township music, Latin percussion, North Indian classical music, folk music and songs.

The intention is not to replicate ‘world music’ styles authentically but to use them as a starting point to inspire your future musical collaborations and composition.

Improvisation (both solo and collective) will be a crucial element throughout, and will be approached in various ways. Bring instruments, including ones you don’t play very well! Non-European instruments and players are particularly welcome.

Knowledge and experience gained in sessions will be useful to your workshop and education practice whether you work in schools or across the community.

10am – 5pm Workshop sessions
7pm – Singing Supper an informal evening of music and songs with lovely home cooked local food.
