‘IN THE FRAME’
BRIAN SPOONER AND EILEEN TUPLING
Two artists, formally trained, different styles, similar themes and bound by the traditions of framed, two dimensional painting.
The work in this exhibition shows how two artists have used personal experience combined with knowledge of their craft to produce paintings which identify subject through the exploration of light, colour, texture, form.
Brian’s work is large (gallery size). Using his formal training in drawing and painting at Ruskin College, Oxford and his years of experience, lecturing, he has produced work which not only responds to the landscape but shows a rigorous visual language.
Eileen’s work, in character, is quite different. It is smaller and more intimate. It responds more directly to the subject matter but is underpinned by her background in textiles, both as a designer and as a lecturer. Her themes elicit a response which is interpreted in colour and light.
Brian and Eileen worked together in education and have previously had two joint exhibitions.
