We’re in a caravan, by the sea, in the past, and in the present. Outside, the water moves gently, lit by those sunrises and sunsets of heart-stopping colours only Morecambe Bay can achieve.

The door opens and an elderly man enters. He holds a small blue bottle. Romeo and Juliet are now at the end of their lives, rather than the beginning, and still very
much in love. Shakespeare’s writing takes on a fresh poignancy as this older couple begin to say their goodbyes, facing the very real prospect of soon being apart.

This is the greatest love story ever retold; a reworking of Shakespeare’s text with a sprinkling of his sonnets. Masterfully woven together by the National Theatre’s Associate Director, Ben Power (writer of the hugely successful Medea), and boldly retold by Dukes Associate Director Louie Ingham, this is an intoxicating and moving production – a poetic, Northern and humorous love letter to life-long love.
